| | An overview of the Department of Jurisprudence and its origins: | Teaching at the Department of Jurisprudence and its Origins began with the launch of the School of Shariah in 1971, and it was named Jurisprudence and Legislation, and the department continued to bear this name until the academic year 1994/1995, when it was chosen to be called Jurisprudence and its Origins. Since its establishment, the department has included the finest scholars of the noble Shariah, which made it occupy a prestigious scientific position among its counterparts in Arab and Islamic universities, but it occupies the most prominent position in terms of the advanced scientific level enjoyed by its graduates, so that the department has become the focus of attention of students of knowledge who wish to study Shariah jurisprudence. The high scientific level achieved by the department has prompted many Arab and Islamic universities to direct students to enroll in the scientific programs offered by the department at the three levels of attainment, bachelor, master, and doctorate, so the department has become a beacon of legal knowledge for students from different Arab and Islamic countries.
Among the most prominent Sharia scholars who contributed to the renaissance of the department and the rise of its standing were His Eminence Prof. Dr. Abdulaziz Al-Khayyat, His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Al-Mubarak - may Allah have mercy on him - and His Eminence Sheikh Muhammad Adib Al-Saleh, His Eminence Prof. Dr. Yassin Daradkeh - may Allah have mercy on him -, Prof. Dr. Al-Muallem, the noble scholar Mustafa Ahmad Al-Zarqa - may Allah have mercy on him - and His Eminence Prof. Dr. Muhammad Fathi Al-Drini - may Allah have mercy on him - and His Excellency Professor Muhammad Naim Yassin - long may he live - and His Excellency Prof. Dr. Muhammad Al-Mahmoud al-Sartawi.
Throughout its bright history, the department has tended towards moderation and mediation in building a proper jurisprudential mind away from fanaticism and exclusion of the other. The four schools of jurisprudence were the method followed in building the jurisprudential personality of students and students, which avoided the graduates of the department from slipping towards fanaticism, and led to a jurisprudential mentality that discusses and debates, and weighs based on the strength of evidence to achieve interest and in accordance with the spirit and purposes of the Shari'a.
The progress of the department has been crowned with horizontal expansion in terms of increasing the number of admitted students as well as vertical expansion by keeping pace with the community's need for scientific qualifications at the three levels of attainment: The department grants a bachelor's degree in Jurisprudence and Origins, a master's degree in the Jurisprudence and Origins program, a master's degree in the Sharia Judiciary program, and a doctoral degree in the Jurisprudence and Origins program. The department aspires to further develop and keep pace with the developments of the times by establishing new programs such as the Judiciary and Sharia Policy program to remain active in its function from the legal and social aspects, as the department succeeded in fulfilling its function towards society and its graduates became active builders and scientists working in facilities related to the specialization such as fatwa, judiciary, education and imamate. May Allah have mercy on those who laid a brick in the building of the Department of Jurisprudence and Fundamentals and extend the life of those who continue to carry the banner of enlightened science and sound jurisprudence.
